Grand Opening in February 2021

Universal Studios Japan will hold the grand opening of the world’s first Super Nintendo World on 04 February 2021.

The new area in the park will bring to life Nintendo’s legendary world, characters, and adventures. Guests will be able to play inside their favorite Nintendo games. The grand opening of Super Nintendo World will kick off the park’s year-long 20th Anniversary Celebration.

Theme Rides and Attractions

Super Nintendo World will feature Mario Kart and Yoshi theme attractions, shops, restaurants, and experiences that can only be found at Universal Studios Japan. Guests can immerse themselves in the interactive area by wearing a Power-Up Band, an innovative technology that brings gameplay to life and keeps score.

Sneak Peek

Image of Bowser’s Castle has been made public for the first time. Inside the castle has a mysterious atmosphere with stone walls, spiked fences, and iron doors. A massive stone statue of Bowser can be seen at the center of the grand staircase.

State of the art technology

At the heart of the castle lies the world’s first Mario Kart theme park ride based on the game series. Universal Studios Japan brings to life Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge. The ride is brought to life using advance technology. The powerful story and characters with augmented reality, projection mapping and screen projection together with a physical set creates an iconic environment only at Universal Studios Japan.

Guest will need to put on their headset and race the iconic course of Mariot Kart with their favorite characters. They will be immersed in the game by steering into the Mushroom Kingdom and throw shells as they race to the finish line with Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach. Win or lose, every race is a new life-size Mario Kart experience.

First Multi-Level Land

Super Nintendo World will be the first multi-level land in Universal Studios Japan. Peach’s Castle and Bowser’s Castle will tower over the area. It will feature Mario Kart and Yoshi theme rides, attractions as well as restaurants and shops.

Asobi Game Experience

Guest at Super Nintendo World will enjoy a new type of game experience. They will need to jump, punch blocks, and collect virtual coins. The Power-Up band in the land will synchronize with the players smartphone to keep track of their score and compete with other guests.

At key challenge attractions, guests can collect keys, gather stamps, and more by using their body in dynamic activities throughout the land.

Mario Kart: Koop’s Challenge

Life size Mario Kart experience using state-of-the-art technology. Race with Mario and Princess Peach while taking out opponents by throwing shells. Countless thrills and excitement in the world’s first Mario Kart ride!

  • Ride Time – 5 minutes
  • Capacity – 4 persons per vehicle
  • Height – must be over 122cm.

Yoshi’s Adventure

Climb on Yoshi’s back and follow Captain Today on a treasure hunting adventure. Captain Toad has forgotten his treasure map. Guest will need to find the three colored eggs that leads the way to the Golden Egg.

Guests will enjoy the spectacular view of the Mushroom Kingdom from Mount Beanpole while having fun on this ride that is suitable for the whole family.

  • Height – must be over 122cm.

Power Up Bank Key Challenge

Retrieve the Golden Mushroom stolen by Bowser Junior. Work your way through the games located in the area to collect three keys. Bowser Junior is waiting for a battle. Jump, punch, and use your body to win this challenge.

Mobile App

Link your Power-Up band to your smartphone by downloading the Universal Studios Japan app. The Power-Up band will be available for purchase in the Super Nintendo World area.

Collect virtual coins, check your ranking, collected stamps, and use the Power-up Band to experience the world in real life
