You will never dream of putting an airport on your bucket list, but Singapore’s Changi Airport is different. Named as the best airport in world year after year, you will be impressed by what this place has to offer – beautiful flowers, palm trees, art installations, restaurants, shops, and even a movie theatre. Sometimes the locals just come here to hang out.

Changi Airport is where Nick Young and Rachel land after their flight from New York to Singapore.

Newton Food Centre in Crazy Rich Asians

Newton Food Centre, Singapore

The Newton Food Centre is promoted by Tourism Board as a tourist attraction for sampling Singaporean cuisine. With one hundred stalls in the center, there are plenty of options to choose from.

In Crazy Rich Asians, Nick brings Rachel here to enjoy Singapore Street Food including ice kacang (shaved ice with condiments), satay, chili crab, chicken rice and more.

Half lion and half fish, the Merlion is the symbol of Singapore. The 30-foot sculpture is worth a visit, plus it also offers a gorgeous view of Marina Bay. In the film, Rachel and Nick have an important conversation in the park.

Chijmes in Crazy Rich Asians

CHIJMES, Singapore

Colin and Araminta’s holds their beautiful wedding at CHIJMES. A heritage building built as a Catholic convent in 1852. Today it is no longer a convent but a shopping and dining center. Inside you will find cafes, restaurants, and a courtyard. The Gothic-style chapel is used as a function hall.

The wedding reception of Colin and Araminta is held at Gardens by the Bay. The place features beautiful waterfront garden with temperature-controlled domes. This is the place to be if you like nature. You can walk through and find a waterfall and over 1,500,00 plants on display from all over the world.

Marina Bay Sands

Nick and Rachel’s engagement party was held at his gorgeous location. The Marina Bay Sands is one of the most iconic landmarks in Singapore. In-house guests can swim at the world’s highest and largest rooftop infinity pool named the Sands Skypark. Non-guest can enjoy beautiful views from the 57th-floor observation deck.

Eastern and Oriental Penang in Crazy Rich Asians

Eastern and Oriental, Penang

The opening hotel scene in London was filmed at Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang. Built by the Sarkies Brothers in 1885, the colonial style hotel features a private seafront, elegant iron-framed verandahs, and old-world elements of helmet-clad doormen and a heritage wing.

The New York restaurant scene was filmed at BLVD House, Naza Towers at Platinum Park in Kuala Lumpur. With classic Thonet chairs, a semi-alfresco setting, and glass louvred doors, the BLVD House creates an upscale dining experience for the rich especially in Crazy Rich Asians. 

Belanda House

Belanda House, Kuala Lumpur

The Belanda House is owned by a Dutch family the Hofstedes. With three pavilions and a glass walled bridge, this mansion is on stilts rising above the jungle canopy. This place was used for Eleanor Young’s bible reading. She first hears of her son’s American girlfriend Rachel Chu.

Astrid Leong makes her first appearance here to pick up a pair of pearl earrings. The black and gold marble at Astor Bar at St. Regis Kuala Lumpur creates a sophisticated old-world charm, fitting the role of an expensive jewelry boutique.

Carcosa Seri Negara

Carcosa Seri Negara, Kuala Lumpur

Located in Taman Tasik Perdana, Carcosa Seri Negara consists of two colonial mansions. Carcosa and Seri Negara occupy 12 hectares of land. Built in 1896 as the official residence of first Resident General of the Federated Malay States, Sir Frank Swettenham.

Seri Negara was built in 1913 as the governments guest house for dignitaries and known as the King’s House. In 1989, Carcosa and Seri Negara were restored as a boutique hotel with much of the colonial architecture and interior designed maintained. The hotel business was shut down in 2015 and the buildings were left abandoned.

In Crazy Rich Asians, the Carcosa Seri Negara was Nick Young’s expensive family home.

Colin Khoo’s bachelor party at Rawa Island was shot in Langkawi. The island is a cluster of 99 islands with many featuring lush rainforest and sea caves surrounded by white beaches and green lagoons.

Araminta Lee hosts her bachelorette party at her family’s resort. The location was the lush Four Seasons Resort in Langkawi. Located in a tropical rainforest, the hotel prides itself on its picturesque beachfront views, luxury accommodations, a spot on the Amdaman Sea, and a wonderful spa.

The courtyard of Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion was transformed into a mahjong parlor where Eleanor Young meets Rachel Chu for a mahjong face-off.

Cheong Fatt Sze’s Blue Mansion was built to pay tribute to his heritage and ensure the well-being of his future descendants. The building even won the prestigious UNESCO Conservation & Heritage Award. Catch a glimpse into the history of this place with its gorgeous architecture, restaurants, outdoor dining, and guided mansion tours.
