Hong Kong based Cathay Pacific will suspend seven routes including the Maldives. The airline recently announced that it would retire Cathay Dragon, consolidate planes, employees, and routes.
South China Morning Post reports that Cathay Pacific will suspend seven routes:
- London Gatwick
- Washington DC
- Seattle, Brussels
- The Maldives.
The axed routes could be reinstated when global travel returns to normal, which might not happen until 2024. The airline will continue to serve London Heathrow and New York JFK.
Cathay Pacific has been affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with no domestic flights and Hong Kong remains closed for tourist for the near future outside the recently launched travel bubble with Singapore.
Even with a vaccine, it will take a while before a considerable number of the population has been vaccinated and travel restrictions lifted.
